School Improvement Plan
Budlong Elementary is dedicated to educating and graduating all students, including those with special needs and those who are English language learners, ensuring their success in high school and beyond. Through an emphasis on literacy, mathematics, science and technology, Budlong aims to imbue its students with the necessary academic skills, attitudes and values to interact and compete in a rapidly changing global society.
To achieve this vision and improve upon their achievements, Budlong plans to address the following.
Academic Instruction: Professional development will emphasize differentiated instruction in order to enhance students’ reading, writing, math and science skills. Particular attention will be placed on daily exposure to and practice of writing in the primary grades. Common prep periods, grade level lesson plans, and restructured school days will also allow staff to develop interventions, accommodations, and modifications to assist students who are deficient in core academic areas. Continuous use of technology as a resource will help develop academic knowledge and skills in all subject areas.
Learning Climate: A new library will be accessible to students before, during, and after school hours. Computers will be accessible to students to work on assignments and projects, and two upgraded science laboratories will be utilized to their full capacity to provide hands-on, tactile learning to our students. Additionally, after school activities will be used to build ties to the community and strengthen community partnerships.
Family Involvement: Budlong will maintain a focus on communicating with parents in English and in their native languages. A parent resource room with updated technology will be accessible for parents to monitor their students' academic progress. Parent workshops will be offered to address parenting skills, literacy and language development, and strategies for assisting special needs and bilingual students. Budlong will engage with families to increase their likelihood of following through on counseling referrals.
