Program Purpose
Budlong’s school counseling program shares the school’s vision of academic success, social enrichment and personal development for all students. Ms. Reed aims to prepare students for success in high school and beyond through a data-driven counseling program; act as a leader and advocate for all students, including those with special needs and limited English proficiency; and create partnerships with school personnel, parents and the community to meet students’ academic and social needs.
In recent months, Ms. Reed formed a partnership with DePaul University’s Graduate School Counseling Program to further address the needs of her students. Her primary concerns included addressing bullying behaviors and promoting healthy relationships among the younger grades. With Ms. Reed’s assistance and guidance, our team delivered a needs assessment to examine bullying in the 1st and 2nd grades and created a comprehensive school counseling curriculum to address academic, personal/social and college/career development at the small group, classroom, and school-wide levels. Following the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) guidelines, our program is divided into four areas: Foundation, Management, Delivery and Accountability.
